About this work

When snow sits on a roof it melts from the house heat and refreezes at the cold eave. That ridge of ice is a dam. The next melt has nowhere to go but back up under the shingles and into the ceiling, the walls and the floors. It only takes a little ice, especially on a low-slope roof.

We take the ice off, clear the snow load, and find why it formed: the clogged gutter, the missing ice and water shield, the attic heat loss. Heat tape along the eaves and the downspouts stops it coming back. When winter is over we fix what the ice got into.

We do this work in Medford, Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Malden, Melrose, Stoneham, Winchester and 80+ communities across Greater Boston, out of our shop in Medford. Full service area.

Questions people ask

I have icicles and a water stain. Is that an ice dam?

Probably. Big icicles at the eave mean water is freezing where it should be draining, and a stain under it means it has already backed up under the shingles. Call us at (781) 874-0095 before the next melt.

Does heat tape work?

Yes, on the eaves and in the downspouts where the ice forms. We install it and tell you when it is worth it for your roof.

Can you stop ice dams for good?

Clear gutters, ice and water shield at the eaves, and a well-vented, insulated attic stop most of them. We do the roof and gutter side and tell you what the attic needs.
